Rashida Oliver

Judge Rashida Oliver serves as the Municipal Court Judge for the City of East Point. She has served in that esteemed position for 16 years. However, her legal career commenced 21 years ago upon graduating from Georgia State University College of Law, and accepting a position as a legal assistant, with the Law offices of Robinson and Dixon and as an Attorney in Private Practice with Adams and Oliver, P.C.

Dedicated to the basic principles of this Country’s system of law and justice, and a strong champion of an individual’s Miranda rights which promises every criminal defendant a right to an attorney whether they can afford one or not, Judge Oliver answered the call to be that public servant in 1995 when she became a court appointed Attorney for indigent defendants, thus beginning her legal passage with the City of East Point. From 1995 to 1999 she worked tirelessly protecting the rights of criminal defendants during hearings and trials. Her hard work did not go unnoticed. In 1999, the Honorable George Barron appointed her to serve as an Associate Judge. Within four years, in 2003 she ascended to being appointed as Interim Chief Judge, and made history in 2005 by becoming the first African American Chief Judge in the City of East Point.

As Chief Judge she is at the helm of operating a court system at the Municipal Level. She presides over cases involving violations of motor vehicle and traffic laws, criminal cases that may result in a sentence of fines or jail time, as well as cases involving violations of municipal ordinances. Judge Oliver currently serves as the Chair of the Ethics and Professionalism Committee for the Council of Municipal Court Judges, where she has previously served as Secretary, Vice President and President.

Judge Oliver, and her husband Akil As-Salaam, are proud and devoted parents of six children ages 16, 18, 20, 24, 28 and one predeceased at age 15.
