Judge Raquel Pope was appointed to the Fulton County Magistrate court as a full time judge on May 8, 2020. She brings with her nearly 15 years of both criminal and civil legal experience. Judge Pope began her career as an Assistant District Attorney in South Georgia. She also practiced in the Athens-Clarke County and Fulton County District Attorney’s Offices. As a prosecutor, she amassed nearly ten years of first chair jury trial experience; handling the full gamut of cases. Judge Pope was awarded the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office’s highest distinction, the Lewis Slaton Highest Achievement Award for her outstanding track record, (Attorney of the Year).
Following her criminal experience, Judge Pope transitioned into civil litigation. As a civil litigator, she represented plaintiffs, defendants, corporations and individuals in the Magistrate, State and Superior Courts of Georgia. She primarily worked in the area of insurance defense, defending claims involving personal injury, professional malpractice, security premises, transportation and trucking, construction and product liability cases.
Judge Pope earned her Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law in 2005. She obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Georgia with a concentration in Business Management.
Judge Pope is active in the legal community with her involvement in Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA), Georgia Association of Women Lawyers (GAWL) and Gate City Bar Association. Judge Pope is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
In her free time, Judge Pope enjoys spending time with her husband and children. She also enjoys watching Georgia football and playing golf.
