Judge Melynee Leftridge began her career as an attorney in 1991 following graduation from Georgetown University Law Center and Spelman College (C ’88). Early in her legal career, she served as a Staff Attorney on the Fulton County Superior Court and the Georgia Court of Appeals.
During her career, Judge Leftridge practiced criminal law as a prosecutor with the Fulton County District Attorney's Office and worked as a civil trial lawyer. As a trial lawyer, she tried numerous jury trials, as sole counsel, over the course of her career and has represented plaintiffs and defendants, corporations and individuals in the State and Superior Courts of Georgia. Her substantial trial experience has served her well in connection with presiding over criminal and civil jury trials as a judge.
In 2007, Judge Leftridge became a part-time judge serving the Citizens of Fulton County, while also working as a civil trial lawyer. Shortly thereafter, she was elevated to a full-time judicial position where she presides over civil cases and felony and misdemeanor criminal cases in the Superior, State and Magistrate Courts of Fulton County.
Judge Leftridge has proudly served her local community for two terms on the Board of Directors at Southside Medical Center. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Covenant Community, Inc. (CCI), an accredited residential life stabilization program for homeless men recovering from substance abuse. She has served as a mentor in the Perkerson Elementary School 3rd grade Reading Program and as a volunteer in the Just the Beginning Foundation's "Robes in Schools" program. She routinely serves as a presiding judge in Atlanta area high school mock trial competitions. Judge Leftridge is a Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
Judge Leftridge holds leadership positions in a number of organizations related to the legal profession, including, the Atlanta Bar Association (Judicial Section) and the Gate City Bar Association (Judicial Section). She is a member of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA) and the Magistrate Council of Georgia.
Judge Leftridge is admitted to practice law in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the Supreme Court of Georgia and the Court of Appeals of Georgia. She is admitted to practice law in all Georgia Superior and State Courts.
