Judge Harry J. Bowden is a native of Atlanta, born July 31, 1961. He attended Frederick Douglass High School and graduated at the age of sixteen. He earned his Bachelor of Art in 1982 from Morehouse College and his Jurist doctorate from Howard University School of Law in 1985.

He began his legal career in government and private practice by simultaneously serving as law clerk for the Honorable Harris C. Bostic, concentrating on general practice, and serving as law clerk for Judge Rome Powell in the Fulton County Juvenile Court.

Judge Bowden served in several post within the Atlanta and Fulton County Judicial Circuit, He honorable served as an Assistant Fulton County Public Defender, City of Atlanta Public Defender, City of Atlanta Solicitor, and Fulton County District Attorney.

Judge Bowden’s judicial appointments began in 1995 as Judge in Fulton County Juvenile Court, then Fulton Magistrate Court in 1996 where he served until 2001. From 2002 until present, Judge Bowden has served as Judge in the City of East Point Municipal Court.

Judge Bowden founded and opened Alternative Choices Corporation that provided social services including pretrial-intervention programming. He served as its President until 2012.

In 2012, Judge Bowden entered into public education where he received his State Teachers Certification after attending Georgia State School of Education and Human Development. He taught a three-year law pathway until 2016, at Henry Grady High School.

His private Professional Services also include being an Independent Grant Reviewer for the US Department Health and Human Services as well as a Contract Compliance Attorney for the State of Georgia Division of Family and Children Services

Judge Bowden is a volunteer with the Georgia Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Member of the Board of Directors for the Council on Aging and Fulton County HJC Bowden Multi-Purpose Senior Citizen Center.
