Judge John Kevin Franks was raised in Fulton County and is a graduate of
the Fulton County Public School System. He attended Morehouse College,
graduating in 1993 with a B. A. in Political Science, cum laude. Judge
Franks obtained his J. D. from the Georgetown University Law Center,
graduating in 1996. While in law school, he worked as an intern with the
Internal Revenue Service in the Office of Chief Counsel.
After passing the Georgia Bar, Judge Franks began his legal career in the
office of U. S. Senator Max Cleland, working as a Legislative Assistant and
Counsel in Washington D. C. He returned to Atlanta in 1998, working as a
prosecutor in the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, then working as
an Associate with the law firm of Thomas Kennedy Sampson and
Patterson. Judge Franks has also worked as an Associate Counsel for
MARTA.
In addition to serving as a Part-Time Magistrate, Judge Franks practices
law in other counties in Georgia. Judge Franks has been married for more
than 20 years and lives in South Fulton with his wife and three children.
